Clinical Internship - Medical Assistant

Why should you consider a clinical internship?

Experience – Due to the nature of the medical assisting job, medical school and physician assistant school admissions
committees know applicants with this background have acquired meaningful patient experiences and a strong familiarity with medical settings.

Collaboration & Teamwork Skills – Healthcare professionals never work alone. Through a medical assisting internship, gain valuable collaborative skills as you understand the functions of various clinical staff and how they work together to support the clinicians in rendering patient care.

What will you learn as a Medical Assistant?

The paid one year internship includes a three week intensive hands-on training.
Following this initial training period, interns work under the direct supervision of a physician and/or advanced practice provider (APP).

Electronic Medical System (EMR)

This software is the backbone of any medical practice. Learn the various components of a medical record and how to document patient visit information and manage g.patient care using the EMR.

Medical Terminology

Learn medical terminology and how to conduct patient interviews, record vitals, and listen to physicians, and learn how to translate what they’re saying into a patient medical record

Patient Care Coordination

Learn about various aspects of patient care coordination like ordering imaging, labwork, referral to other specialists etc. and how a clinician uses this information to render medical care.

Medical Compliance

Learn about various healthcare compliance requirements including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), infection control, patient safety and emergency protocols.

Billing

Understand basics of medical billing, insurance companies and authorization requirements.

Requirements

Due to the staff and time investment in training an intern, a one year commitment is required. If the intern fulfills the one year commitment and is in good standing during this period, the supervising physician at their location will provide a strong letter of recommendation.
